I haven’t listened to a Moth story in a long time, but this one by Alaskan glacier guide Monte Montepare might be the one to get me back into it. I’m still in awe of how some people can deliver live stories seemingly off the cuff in front of a live audience, and just nail it. (Thanks, Andy)
I was reading this Atlantic story about the strangely positive scientific findings about ice cream (gift link), thinking, "maybe this is way too long and in the weeds of research," and then near the end of the article, I hit this gem: "For one, ice cream’s glycemic index, a measure of how rapidly a food boosts blood sugar, is lower than that of brown rice." So it made the cut. Even though it is probably quite far into the weeds.
The delivery here, the writing, the parenting decision, the kid doing his thing, the profanity, the catharsis
This might really hit home only if you’re of a certain age, but I think anyone (maybe) can appreciate the effort that goes into the curation and presentation of this (and the aesthetics!): Electronic Plastic, a museum of portable electronic toys from the 1970s and 1980s.
I used to think I was an extrovert, but after I read Susan Cain’s book Quiet, I thought I was an introvert who could be an extrovert when needed, and then I read this Scientific American piece that was like, “meh, I guess most of us are pretty much somewhereon a sort of introvert-extrovert spectrum.”
Of all of these,I think the “Kurt Cobain as a coffee grinder” one is my favorite
